January STEM activity

Hot Chocolate Math
This was our STEM activity for the month of January.
In fact our entire day dealt with hot chocolate from the story we read, to graphing the likes and dislikes of hot chocolate, to our STEM activity.
The STEM activity asked how may different combinations of hot chocolate could we make using 3 different flavors
White Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, and Milk Chocolate
3 different toppings
Whip Cream, Mini Marshmallows, and Large Marshmallows
2 different sprinkles
Chocolate Sprinkles or Cinnamon
We worked in teams to find the total number of ways a person could build a cup of hot chocolate.
We were having so much fun that we had to stop and drink a cup of hot chocolate.
What a YUMMY day!

100 Days of School-100 Licks???

Lollipop and 100 Licks

We selected our favorite flavor of a Lollipop and made a prediction of what the sucker will look like after we lick it 100 times.
Mrs. Butler kept count in groups of 10's with tally marks on the board.  Each time she said the number we took a lick.
Boy that was just about too many licks!
Here are our pictures of our fun 100 Day activity.

We had fun on our 100th day and we do feel that in many ways we are 100 days smarter!
But our tongues were tired of licking!!!

Family Fun Night

Back in October our parents and a few grandparents came to experience life as a second grader.  They were able to see how we take AR tests, learn our math facts with exciting games, and giggle as we "rolled" those pumpkins in a race for speed.  Here are some of the pictures.

Who Is That Snowman?

Christmas Party Fun

At our party we were given the assignment from our party mothers to decorate one person from our group to be a snowman.  We were given toilet paper, paper eyes, buttons and a nose.  We had a hoot decorating and changing our friend into a snowman.
Here are some of the cute pictures.

STEM activity with Candy Canes

Candy Cane Science???
We had a great time NOT eating candy canes!
Yes, we used them in science class.  Our first activity tested the dissolving time with different temperatures of water.  The second fun thing we did was to observe what happened when we dropped candy canes in different types of liquids.  We uses water, vinegar, lemon juice, cooking oil, 7-Up, and sugar water.  If was exciting to see what liquid dissolved the candy cane first.  Our last little project was to guess if the candy cane would fizz or erupt when we put baking soda on the candy and then dropped some vinegar on the top.
We had so much fun not one students asked to eat the candy.
