On Tuesday, September 6, Greenwood County 2nd Graders traveled to the Sowder Ranch and had a Day on the Farm. The morning was spent moving around the different stations, ran by FFA, FCCLA, Cattlemen, and Cattlewomen. At every station we learned about the different parts of farm and ranch life. After lunch, 2nd Graders leaned how a cow was milked. We watched a live cow, Jitterbug, get milked. Cool! We also enjoyed the nature walk learning about the various types of grasses that grow in Greenwood County. Our favorite part of the day was the hayrack ride down the country roads.

Beyond the Beef
Marshmallows, hand lotion, lip stick, and crayons, are some of the items that come from beef that we use daily.
One hide of a cow gives us leather for shoes, boots, football, basketballs, and so much more.
Another station had us working as pumpkin farmers and learning how to raise a health crop of pumpkins.
The Day was wonderful and we thank Farm Bureau for planning our fun filled day. A HUGE thank you goes to Jeff and Cheryl Sowder for inviting us to their ranch!!!
